About the image

The crystal, mounted on a light stand, is lit with a slide projector (camera right) fitted with a 180mm telephoto lens, and a slide containing red and white patches. Some of the light beam passed beside the crystal, and with a mirror on camera left, this beam was reflected onto the model’s face, around the left eye. The face is lit fairly flat (i.e. without deep shadows) with a blue-gelled strobe and purple-gelled strobe.
