We knew we wanted to be in position at sunrise in the sand dunes for sunrise. We were alongside the river, which is recently melted snow from the mountains and was just above freezing. The air wasn’t much warmer. We were in position when the sun hit the river. At that moment, we got into the water and took a few shots over just a couple minutes before running to the car to warm up. I had tested using strobes to balance the light, but I decided it looked best with just natural light.
