About the image

I had this image in my head for a long time. I wanted to create a portrait that projected strength in the face of adversity and I wanted to use a woman to show it. This picture composites a sky into the background to underline the drame I wanted to portray. I called my favorite model, Allee Sutton, who stood in bare sunlight. I had scouted the location and chose a time when the sun would cross-light her and her wardrobe.
