About the image

The portrait of professional boxer Dewayne Beamon is part of my “The Fabric of Raleigh” portrait series. I make portraits of a variety of people across my community, on-location where I find them. Nothing is pre-arranged or -scheduled, so this was the first time Dewayne and I met, and he kindly stayed after his sparring practice for me to make this protract of him, right there in the gym next to the boxing ring. Other subjects in the “The Fabric of Raleigh” series include authors, chefs, firefighters, ballet dancers, hair stylists, bakers, groundskeepers, baseball players, …
